End User Licence Agreement
Last updated: 27 October 2026
This End User Licence Agreement (“EULA”) is between you and Georgios Charilaou, who publishes software as Maniac Lab (Limassol, Cyprus; “we”, “us”). It covers Maniac OS and the apps we publish for it — Maniac Cut, Maniac Draw, Maniac Pixel, Maniac Darkroom and Clinic — together with their updates (the “Software”).
By installing or using the Software you accept this EULA. If you don’t accept it, don’t install or use the Software. This EULA goes together with our Terms of use and sale; where they differ on how you may use the Software, this EULA applies.
Part A — Maniac OS
1. Free licence
Maniac OS is free of charge. You may download it, install it and use it on any number of computers, at home or at work. You may copy the unchanged installation image to install it on your own computers or on computers you look after.
2. Open-source components
Maniac OS includes software by other authors — among others the Linux kernel and firmware, components of the Ubuntu 24.04 base, Mesa, PipeWire and Flatpak — each under its own open-source licence (for example the GNU GPL, the GNU LGPL, the MIT, BSD or Mozilla licences). Those licences apply to those components, and nothing in this EULA limits the rights they give you. The licence texts are installed with the system, usually under /usr/share/doc. Where to get the source code, and our written offer, are on the page Open-source software and source code.
3. Our own parts
The parts of Maniac OS that we wrote — its desktop, window manager, menu bar, Dock and built-in apps, its artwork, and the names and logos “Maniac OS” and “Maniac Lab” — belong to us. You may not distribute modified versions of Maniac OS under the name Maniac OS or with our logos.
Part B — Paid apps
4. What you get
When you buy an app, we give you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use it on up to 5 PCs authorised with your Maniac ID at the same time, with no time limit. If you buy for a business or a medical practice, its staff may use the app on those PCs.
5. Licences per PC
Apps are installed through the Store on Maniac OS. For each PC, our licence server issues a licence that is signed for that PC only, and the app is encrypted for it. You need an internet connection to buy an app and to install it on a PC; after that it works offline. If you deauthorise a PC, its licences are removed. Paid licences do not expire.
6. What you may not do
Except where the law expressly allows it, you may not:
- copy an app other than by installing it through the Store as described above;
- sell, rent, lend, share or sublicense an app or your Maniac ID to others;
- circumvent, disable or tamper with the licensing, signatures or encryption;
- decompile, disassemble or reverse-engineer an app;
- remove copyright or other notices.
7. Updates
We publish updates through the Store, where you install them. Updates to an app you own come at no extra charge.
8. Refunds
You can ask for a refund within 14 days, as described in the refund policy. After a refund the licence for that purchase ends, and the app stops working on your PCs.
9. Clinic
Clinic is practice management software. It is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. The practice is responsible for the accuracy of its records, for backups, and for following the rules on data protection and medical records. Patient data stays on the practice’s PC; we cannot see it.
Part C — For all the Software
10. Ownership
The Software is licensed, not sold. We, and for open-source components their authors, keep all rights not expressly given to you in this EULA. Your files and data are yours.
11. Warranty
Maniac OS is free and provided “as is”, without warranty, to the extent the law allows. For apps you bought, your statutory rights for faulty digital content apply; beyond those we give no further warranty, to the extent the law allows. Installing an operating system erases the disk you choose — back up your data first, and keep backups of your work.
12. Liability
We are liable without limit for intent, gross negligence and injury to life, body or health. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to the price you paid for the app concerned (for Maniac OS, which is free, to the extent the law allows, we are not liable).
13. End of the licence
You can end this EULA at any time by uninstalling the Software. The licence for an app ends after a refund. If you seriously break this EULA, your licence ends and you must stop using the Software concerned.
14. Law
This EULA is governed by the laws of the Republic of Cyprus. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence.
